A Poem of Financial Equality

A Poem of Financial Equality
By Ashley B.

Dear Stephen Harper,
Please pay me less for the same amount of work I do than my male counterparts.

I don’t need all that money.

I work just as hard as them, maybe more, why should I be rewarded for my good deeds and hard work.

I don’t need all that money.

I am just trying to “supplement” my income even though I am the sole provider for my one-person family.

I don’t need all that money.

It’s not like I have bills to pay, rent to pay, food to buy and just to live.

I don’t need all that money.

Let my male counterparts get raises since they have families and wives to support. I have just me; I can starve and let my bills go past due. What is heat anyway, when my male-coworkers are taken care of.

I mean I already make less than them anyway. About 25 cents less than every dollar they make. Why should I make the same or more working the same job. After all I am only a woman.

I am sure I will find some man to take care of me. Who gets his equal pay for his work. It will be nice. My meager earnings will not matter.

I don’t need all that money.

I will be a martyr. Sacrificing myself for the economy.

It’s not like Women’s Issues mattered to you before Mr. Harper
